Spot-welding

Spot welding is the resistance welding process, which is based on pressure and temperature. A part of the parts to be welded is heated by electric current at temperatures close to the melting and a pressure is exerted between them.
This current is transmitted through electrodes with a certain pressure which elevates the temperature of the materials to a pasty state in which they are joined due to the pressure exerted.

The sector where more spot welding robots are installed is clearly that of the automobile, especially in the area of the body. They are also often used to weld other sheet metal structures, such as metal cabinets.

Those responsible for spot welding are robots, which are programmed by software with the parameters for each welding. The intensity of the current, the welding time, and the pressure exerted are programmed depending on the thickness of the materials to be joined.

The use of industrial robots for this type of welding is motivated by its ability to work in difficult conditions, in a very precise and efficient way, obtaining a very high quality ratio and high performance.
The robots for spot welding require in general a capacity of high payload since the welding guns installed, usually have considerable weights, superiors to 100 kg.
With the exception of the case in which the robot loads with the assembly to be welded, being the welding gun static and assembled outside the robot.

The automotive industry demands a large number of robots for the realization of this type of welding to achieve high production volumes.

A spot welding system is added to the tip of the arm, depending on the product to be welded. These robots offer maximum precision and high speed, as well as the possibility of installing them in a assembly line with a programmed function.

The speed and repetitiveness of the process is closely linked to the use of spot welding robots that are capable of carrying out the joining process with a speed and precision that is beyond the scope of manual work.
Spot welding robots are decisive parts for productivity and for the quality of the final product. Most of these robots are also multifunctional. That is to say, once they carry out the welding they are able to move large metal parts.

There are also spot welding robots that are used in process automation and in the electronics industry. In these cases they are small robots, capable of welding joints of excellent quality and at high speed. Specialized companies can design complete welding facilities, including the most suitable robots and the necessary equipment.
Spot welding is also used in other sectors such as orthodontics, and in the electronic equipment sector.
